Aligning with Craft CMS Support Versions
Block 81 follows a support policy based on Craft CMS's official version timeline. This ensures your site stays secure, compatible, and maintainable while following industry best practices.
Starting November 1, 2025, Block 81 will be following Craft CMS's security support timeline for the Craft work we do. This is a straightforward update to how I approach ongoing support and new work requests, and I wanted to explain what it means and why it matters.
Why Support Versions Matter
Craft CMS, like most modern software platforms, maintains different support levels for its versions. Actively supported versions receive new features and improvements, while security-supported versions receive critical security patches. Once a version reaches end-of-life, it no longer receives updates of any kind—which can create security vulnerabilities and compatibility issues over time.
As web technology evolves rapidly, staying on supported versions ensures your site remains secure, compatible with modern hosting environments, and able to take advantage of performance improvements.
What This Means for Block 81 Clients
I'm using Craft's security support timeline as my baseline, and I may provide limited support for recent version that have reached end-of-life on a case-by-case basis. My goal is to maintain a practical policy while being flexible when needed.
Here's how this policy works in practice:
New Website Builds
All new projects use the current stable version of Craft CMS. This has always been my practice and won't change.
Ongoing Support & Maintenance Contracts
Monthly maintenance includes regular updates, and I schedule major version upgrades (like Craft 4 → 5) as separate projects but will still fall within your contract. This ensures your site stays current and supported without adding extra costs.
Ad-Hoc Support Requests & Emergency Fixes
For any new work requests—whether it's adding a feature, fixing a bug, or addressing an emergency—your site will need to be on a security-supported version of Craft first. I'll work with you to plan and schedule any necessary upgrades.
This isn't about making things harder—it's about ensuring I can deliver quality work efficiently and keep your sites secure. Working on outdated versions creates technical debt, security risks, and compatibility headaches that ultimately don't serve anyone well.
Following Craft's own support guidelines aligns with industry best practices and ensures I'm working with stable, secure, and well-documented software. It also means you benefit from modern features, better performance, and peace of mind.
What You Should Do
If you're not sure which version of Craft your site is running, or if you'd like to discuss scheduling an upgrade, just reach out. I'm happy to check your current version, explain what an upgrade involves, and work with you on timing that makes sense for your business.
This policy takes effect November 1, 2025, but there's no need to panic—I'll work with you to make any necessary transitions as smooth as possible.
